YOGA NIDRA

Derived from the tantras, Yoga Nidra is a powerful transformational practice.  Yoga Nidra is an unique combination of focused alertness combined with a releasing of the critical factor of the conscious mind. The practice of physical and mental relaxation with focused and heighten awareness is so powerful that:
  • Practitioners experience rejuvenation and transformation.
  • Participants experience physical and spiritual healing.
  • Powerful tools are brought foreword to eliminate destructive behavior.
  • Fear, guilt and anger are replaced with a real and positive energy.  

This one day workshop includes:
  • Review of the origins and theory of Yoga Nidra.
  • Pratyahara or the withdrawal of the senses from the external world.
  • Yoga Nidra and the Brain. (The “little man” theory.)
  • Review scientific Investigations including sleep and dreams, the whole mind, counteracting stress, and controlling centers of the brain.
  • Highlight therapeutic applications including psychological disorders, insomnia, drug addiction and alcoholism, chronic diseases, and pain relief.
  • Highlight psychosomatic diseases alexithymia, asthma, colitis and peptic ulcer.
  • Review applications for cardiovascular diseases.
  • How to prepare a Yoga Nidra Practice including setting a sanculpa and guiding the process
  • Experience two Yoga Nidra Practices.

*This 7-hour workshop is applicable toward the Level 2 Discovery Yoga teacher certification.

Jim RyanJames P. Ryan, RYT200 is enrolled in the IYT/RYT500 Professional Yoga Therapist program. He began his personal practice in 1991 and has studied Integrative Yoga Therapy, Kripalu and Bikram yoga. Jim has been teaching since 2002. He has designed and presented programs with special attention to the health of the hips, shoulders and back. Joseph LePage of Integrative Yoga Therapy introduced Jim to Yoga Nidra. Since then, he has studied Yoga Nidra as presented by Swami Satyananda Saraswati of the Bihar School of Yoga. He is a certified hypnotherapist with the First Coast Therapy Group in Ponte Vedra. In that position Jim has used hypnotherapy to improve the lives of people with many different disorders including: COD, anger management issues, insomnia, manic depressive disorder, test anxiety, closed skull brain trauma and others.  Jim brings an enthusiasm and love of teaching to the student. He also teaches Yoga for Stress Reduction at local businesses and Not-for-Profit organizations.
